May 8, 2013: We're off to Never, Never Land.

Today our students have their final performance of selected scenes from Aladdin, Jr. for the Rotary Club. This is an annual tradition that usually takes place before the first performance of the play but our schedule this year has this after the performances. The kids had a great spring and it will be time to tear everything down after today. God bless everyone who came out and supported the arts in Lawrence County.

1860, Novelist James M. Barrie is born in Kirriemuir, Scotland. In 1920, Barrie introduced the world to his most brilliant character, Peter Pan. In 1904, his play starring Peter Pan was produced under the title Peter Pan: or, The Boy Who Wouldn’t Grow Up. In 1953, Walt featured Peter Pan in an animated feature film and Peter is a mainstay in the Disney roster of characters. Make your way over to The Magic Kingdom and ride Peter Pan’s Flight (get there early, preferably during early morning extra magic hours, you’ll be glad you did).

On this date in1949, Singer-songwriter and piano-man Billy Joel, the voice of Dodger in Disney's 1988 Oliver & Company, is born in New York City. Make it down to Casey’s Corner in The Magic Kingdom and wait on the piano man that often breaks out in song in the area.

On this date in 1901, Fuzzy Knight was born in Fairmont, West Virginia. Fuzzy wrote a pep song still used by the WVU Mountaineers. He went on to star in over 125 westerns and other movies over a 40-year period. Let’s honor Fuzzy with a visit to Fronteirland. Do what you want. Fuzzy did.

Remember, your best excuse is always: waiting for your dreams to come true.
