September 8, 2013: The Lion King, Sky High and Ernest Hemingway.

Jonathan Taylor Thomas was born on this day in 1981 in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania. Most famous as Randy Taylor on Home Improvement, Thomas has a number of Disney roles but probably most immediately recognized as Young Simba in The Lion King. Let’s head over to The Animal Kingdom and enjoy The Festival of the Lion King in honor of Thomas.

One of my all-time favorite Disney movies is Sky High. I’m a sucker for the, “anyone can be a superhero,” storyline. Jake Sandvig was born on this date in 1986 in Clovis, California. Sandvig starred as Lash, a hero/villain, who had the ability to stretch. You can be a hero too by working with Merlin at The Sorcerers of the Magic Kingdom.

On of my heroes is Ernest Hemingway and visiting his home in Key West, Florida in 2008 is one of my prized moments. On this date in 1952, Hemingway’s Old Man & The Sea was published. The book is a very short story that details a fisherman’s isolated journey trying to land a fish in the waters around Cuba. The impact of the novel led directly to Hemingway earning the Nobel Prize in Literature. Honor Hemingway by visiting The Writer’s Stop at Disney’s Hollywood Studios and, while you’re there, try a Carrot Cake Cookie, arguably the best snack at Walt Disney World.

Turkey Leg and Carrot Cake Cookie. Strolling food tastes better.

Remember, your best excuse is always: waiting for your dreams to come true.
