February 24, 2013: 1955, at least one Job was created on this day.

This was a good day. We got together with some family to celebrate Allison’s 21st birthday. We had a Dr. Who cake and some good Mexican food at Toro Loco. Then the kids and I went to the Huntington Mall and watched Warm Bodies an entertaining take on Romeo and Juliet but with zombies.

On this date in 1786, Wilhelm Carl Grimm was born in Hanau, Germany. The brothers Grimm collected and published great folktales like: Rapunzel, Snow White, Cinderella and Sleeping Beauty. As you can see Walt got a lot of his inspiration from their collection of traditional folktales. How do we recognize the influence the brothers Grimm had on Walt Disney World? Visit New Fantasyland, all of it, everywhere you turn in Fantasyland there is some hint of those classic stories.

I never actually met Steve Jobs but I was in the same room with him at the Moscone Center in San Francisco, California. I was there, in 2007, when Jobs introduces the iPhone to the world. Apple gave us all kinds of free stuff; they did not give us free iPhones. I also got to eat at Betelnut, a great restaurant, and Apple picked up the tab. I am an Apple fan. There are three MacBooks in our house, one iMac, two iPhones and one classic iPod. For all the impact Apple has had on the world, most of Steve Jobs’ money did not come from Apple, it came from Pixar. Jobs got involved with Pixar at a crucial point in their development and offered an infusion of capital and leadership that led to the movie making machine we know and love. The number one stockholder in Disney is the estate of Steve Jobs. Today is his birthday; he was born in 1955 and left us way too soon. Enjoy the Pixar characters everywhere in Walt Disney World and remember a man who rivaled Walt in his vision.

Never passing up an excuse to eat today is National Tortilla Chip Day. Tortilla chips were invented in Los Angeles in the 1940s, so they are just as American as apple pie, hot dogs and Main Street, USA. One of our favorite snacks is a late night meal at what is now the Tortuga Tavern across from Pirates of the Caribbean. There’s nothing like good Mexican food at midnight when you still have two hours left to ride at the Magic Kingdom in the middle of summer.

Only the name has been changed.

Remember, your best excuse is always: waiting for your dreams to come true.
