July 17, 2013: Go your own way, just make sure it's not the wrong direction.

1938: Wrong Way Corrigan Day. Douglas Corrigan left New York for Los Angeles and end up in… Ireland. We’ve all done it at one time or another just probably not that bad. If you don’t want to go the wrong way, head over to Mouse savers and download their set of custom POI’s for Walt Disney World. It’s a big area; know where you’re going.

1879: The first railroad opens in Hawaii. Let’s go to The Magic Kingdom, ride the train and get a Dole Whip.

1900: James Cagney was born. He was a Yankee Doodle Dandy and a great big screen gangster. Go see him as a gangster in the Great Movie Ride at Hollywood Studios.

1912: Art Linkletter was born in Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan, Canada. Linkletter took part in the televised grand opening of Disneyland, which was on this day in 1955, after construction began on this day in 1954. Whew! I met Art Linkletter when he presided over the grand opening of the Louisa Community Hospital (now Three Rivers Medical Center) in, I think, 1972. Visit the TV hall of fame at Hollywood Studios to honor Art.

1917: Phyllis Diller, one of the funniest people ever, was born in Missouri. Diller was the voice of The Queen in the 1998 Disney/Pixar A Bug's Life. Go see It’s Tough To Be A Bug at Disney’s Animal Kingdom in Ms. Diller’s honor.

1929: Actress Helene Stanley was born in Gary, Indiana. Stanley, the live-action model for Cinderella, and the live-action model for Sleeping Beauty; she also portrayed Polly Crockett in the 1955 Davy Crockett, King of the Wild Frontier. Get on over to the Magic Kingdom and enjoy Cinderella Castle and the upcoming Princess Meet and Greet right next door.

1934: Donald Sutherland was born in Saint John, New Brunswick, Canada. I remember Sutherland from M*A*S*H during my youth when Ms. Francis Cain would let me watch any movie there (except The Exorcist and Midnight Cowboy) because my Dad told her I could. My affection for Sutherland was forever cemented when he appeared in the video for “Cloudbusting” by my favorite female singer, Kate Bush. For you younger folk, Sutherland is the father of Kiefer Sutherland, of 24 fame, and he plays President Snow in The Hunger Games. Sutherland did a Disney turn in the 1994 sci-fi The Puppet Masters. Let’s kick back and enjoy the Canada Pavilion at EPCOT in honor of ol’ Hawkeye.

1952: Don’t Hassel the Hoff, David Hasselhoff was born in Baltimore, Maryland and immediately became a superstar in Germany. Visit the German Pavilion in EPCOT and see if you can figure it out.

Remember, your best excuse is always: waiting for your dreams to come true.
