July 16, 2013: You knew it had to happen, Walt Disney World and popcorn.

1946: Muppet performer Dave Goelz is born in Burbank, California. Goelz started as a part-time puppet builder in 1973, Goelz went on to become a full-fledged Muppeteer and the voices of Gonzo and Bunsen Honeydew. His Disney credits include Studio DC: Almost Live! and Disney Extreme Digital. Goelz is also the (second) voice of Figment, the mascot of the Imagination! Pavilion at Epcot. We love figment and you will too.

1907: Orville Redenbacher was born. Orville built a popcorn empire and, in 1977, his popcorn became the official popcorn of Walt Disney World. If you know me, you know that two of my greatest passions are Walt Disney World and popcorn. We have purchased WDW popcorn since our first trip in 2001 and you’ll see a bucket from that trip below as well as a bucket my daughter, Allison, bought on our last trip on Main Street, U.S.A.

Mott the Hoople are my musical heroes. I’ve loved Mott since the early 1970’s. In the mid 70’s, Ian Hunter and Mick Ronson left Mott the Hoople and were replaced by Nigel Benjamin and Ray Major in the new lineup of “Mott” without the hoople. Ray Major was born on this date in 1949. Major stayed with the group through two Mott albums and two British Lion albums with John Fiddler on vocals. I’ve never heard them play any Mott but the British Invasion at the British Pavilion at EPCOT play some fine covers of great English music. Enjoy.

While we are talking about British music, let’s not forget the Police. Stewart Copeland, drummer for the Police, was born on this day in 1952. I do know that the British Invasion plays a few Police songs. Keep on enjoying.

Mickey Rourke was born on this date in 1953. Mickey is an actor, has been a boxer and has proven more resilient than anyone ever thought. Mickey starred as Whiplash in Iron Man 2. Right now, you can still ride the Ironman-orail at WDW. Don’t forget, the monorail is a free attraction that you can ride for miles and never have to buy a ticket.

1971: Corey Feldman was born in Encino, California. Feldman became associated with Corey Haim as one of “The Two Coreys.” Feldman stars in one of my favorite movies, Stand By Me, based on Stephen King’s novella, The Body. In our little world, Corey starred at the young Copper in The Fox and the Hound, one of our favorite Disney movies. Corey was also a friend with Michael Jackson so let’s get over to the Imagination Pavilion and enjoy Michael Jackson in Captain EO.

Remember, your best excuse is always: waiting for your dreams to come true.
