October 3, 2013: Peter Pan, Sid Phillips and The World of Disney.

Today in 1971, Peter Pan’s Flight opens in Fantasyland in The Magic Kingdom. This was on the third day that Walt Disney World was open (at that time WDW was basically The Magic Kingdom, The Contemporary Resort and The Polynesian). Peter Pan is a continuous ride in which the riders board ships to sail over London and Never Never Land. It also has the most unexplainably long queue at Walt Disney World (a title it once shared with Dumbo, which has be remedied). Go to early morning extra magic hours and ride Peter Pan before the line gets all jacked up.

Erik von Detten was born in San Diego, California on this date in 1982. Erik appeared in Escape to Witch Mountain (the TV version) and The Princess Diaries but in this house he is best known as the voice of Sid Phillips in Toy Story and Toy Story III. Looks like another visit to Toy Story Midway Mania or perhaps Pizza Planet at Hollywood Studios is in order.

On this day in 1996 The World of Disney, the world’s largest Disney store, opened at Walt Disney World’s Village Marketplace (now Downtown Disney (soon to be Disney Springs)). It’s huge, go shopping but don’t get lost.

Remember, your best excuse is always: waiting for your dreams to come true.
