June 21, 2013: Happy Summer

I love Bloom County. Bill the Cat and Opus the penguin are two of my favorite cartoon characters of all time. Berke Breathed, author of Bloom County, was born on this day in 1957 in Encino, California. Breathed’s Disney connection is less than stellar, Mars Needs Moms, his 2007 picture book was made into a movie that didn’t particularly do well. In fact it messed up the release of John Carter because Disney shied away from even using the word Mars in the title or promotion. It’s okay; both movies are better than their reputation. Let’s go to Hollywood Studios and celebrate all movies.

Today is the first day of summer. Summer begins with the Solstice, which takes place at 1:04 am today. This is also National Daylight Appreciation Day and National Flip Flop Day. It’s time for fun in the sun.

Remember, your best excuse is always: waiting for your dreams to come true.
