1856: Nikola Tesla was born
in Croatia. Tesla was an electrical engineer and inventor. Tesla worked with AC
electricity in opposition to Thomas Edison’s commitment to DC electricity. Some
look at Tesla as a genius while others consider him a madman. In my favorite
Disney move, Meet the Robinsons, Tesla
appears on the wall of the orphanage. Enjoy everything electrical (which is
dang near everything) at Walt Disney World in honor of Tesla.
My son loves tennis, he
plays tennis and this last year he made it to the KHSAA state tennis
championships. On this date in 1877, the first Wimbledon tennis championships
were held. You can enjoy all sports at ESPN and at the Wide World of Sports
area at Walt Disney World.
On this date in 1894, Joseph Fowler was born in
Lewiston, Maine. Fowler first worked for Disney when he needed a naval man to
help with the construction of the Mark
Twain paddle steamer at Disneyland. Fowler went on to oversee the
construction of Disneyland and Walt Disney World. Disney World’s original
steamboat was named the Admiral Joe Fowler in his honor. In 1981, Fowler was
called on again to help build EPCOT Center. You can still ride a ship named for
Fowler; it is one of the ferries that take you from the Transportation and
Ticket Center to The Magic Kingdom.
1956: Tom Hanks was born in Concord, California.
Hanks starred in Splash, is in the up
coming Saving Mr. Banks and is voice
of Sheriff Woody in the Toy Story movies.
Go to Midway Mania at Hollywood Studios and enjoy.
1966: Pamela Adlon was born in New York City.
Adlon is the voice of Bobby Hill on King
of the Hill; Vidia in the various Disney Tinker Bell shows and contributes
to Phineas & Ferb and Lilo & Stitch. Go to Hollywood
Studios where you can meet and greet a number of characters from Phineas & Ferb.
1976: Fred Savage was born in Chicago, Illinois.
Savage starred as Kevin Arnold on The
Wonder Years and went on to contribute his voice to Kim Possible, narrate The
Jungle Book: Mowgli’s Story and directed episodes of Phil of the Future, That’s So Raven and Hannah Montana. Go to the Animal Kingdom where The Jungle Book is
always represented.
1982: Tron
was released. Go ride Tron Track at EPCOT.
Remember, your best
excuse is always: waiting for your dreams to come true.
