Today is Hop A Park
Day. A day for you to visit and check out what is going on in the parks in your
area. So naturally, the first thing I think of are park hopper passes to Walt
Disney World. If you’ve never used park hoppers, they are awesome; you can do all
four parks in one day (well you can do some things at all four parks in one day).
We have done just that several times starting at Animal Kingdom in the morning,
over to Magic Kingdom in the mid-day, EPCOT in the afternoon and Hollywood
Studios in the evening. That is bus to AK, bus to MK, monorail to EPCOT and
boat to DHS. Try it sometime to focus on one or two things at each park. It’s
fun.
This is International
Cherry Pit Spitting Day. This is a serious event, held on this date each year
in Michigan. The champion for 2012 was Ron Matt from Chicago, IL. Ron spat his
pit 69 feet. Second was Rick Krause from Dimondale, Michigan who spat his pit
61 feet 2 inches. Go to the Magic Kingdom and ride the Magic Carpet Ride. Look
out for those camels… they spit.
Today is International
Kissing Day. Find a Photopass photographer;
pucker up and save it for posterity. It’s fun and you’ll embarrass your kids.
We did.
1918: Sebastian Cabot
was born in London, England. Cabot was most famous as Mr. French on Family Affair but he has a fine Disney
pedigree. Cabot was the narrator of Winnie
the Pooh and the Blustery Day, Winnie the Pooh and Tigger Too and The Many Adventures of Winnie The Pooh. Cabot
was also Bagheera in The Jungle Book and
Sir Eric in The Sword in the Stone. This
one is simple enough for Pooh to figure out, ride the Pooh ride at The Magic
Kingdom.
Ned Beatty was born in Louisville, Kentucky on
this day in 1937. Beatty, an actor with quite a long work record, is also the
voice of Lots-o’-Huggin’ Bear in Toy
Story 3; A round of Toy Story Mania at Hollywood Studios for everyone.
1951: Geoffrey Rush was born in Queensland,
Australia. Rush has played Captain Barbossa in all four Pirates of the Caribbean films. Rush also voiced Nigel the Pelican
in Finding Nemo and has won a Tony (Exit the King), an Emmy (The Life and Death of Peter Sellers) and
an Oscar (Shine). Ride Pirates of the
Caribbean at The Magic Kingdom, yep, he did voice work for that too.
Quickies:
1747: John Paul Jones was born. Jones was a naval
hero in the Revolutionary War (“I have not yet begun to fight.”) Visit Liberty
Square and perhaps focus on the Columbia Harbor House, which has a maritime
focus.
1945: Holy sidekick, it’s Robin’s birthday. Burt
Ward, Robin on the 1960’s Batman TV
show was born on this date. Visit the “Partners” statue at The Magic Kingdom,
Walt and his sidekick, Mickey.
1978: Twin sisters Tia and Tamera Mowry were
born. They starred in Sister, Sister,
Twitches and Twitches Too. The
ladies have also starred in their own reality series in which Tia shares the
trials and joys of her pregnancy. Go to the twin Dumbo rides at The Magic
Kingdom and ride them twice.
Remember, your best excuse is always: waiting
for your dreams to come true.
