I don’t always mention the behind the scenes
people at Walt Disney World but today is the birthday of someone who’s voice
has been all over Disney and other companies’ products as well. Dal McKennon
was born on this day in 1919. Dal is the voice of Benjamin Franklin in The
American Adventure in EPCOT and the narrator of the late Disneyland attraction
Mine Train thru Nature’s Wonderland. McKennon is perhaps most famous for his
safety announcement on Big Thunder Mountain Railroad. McKennon also was: the
voice of the animated bear in Bedknobs
and Broomsticks, Gumby, Archie Andrews and an actor in Son of Flubber, The Misadventures of Merlin Jones and The Cat from Outer Space. Let’s visit
Big Thunder Mountain Railroad and enjoy McKennon’s announcement before riding.
1848: The first women’s rights convention takes
place in Seneca Falls, New York. Part of the American Adventure takes place
with Susan B. Anthony at just such an event.
1947: Brian May was born in London, England.
Brian had a promising career that he put on hold to be part of a little band he
was in… Queen. Queen was one of the greatest bands in rock and Brian postponed
his PhD in Astrophysics. Brian became Dr. Brian May, PhD in 2007. I guess he
really is the champion. Let’s enjoy the British Revolution in the English
Pavilion at EPCOT.
Remember, your best excuse is always: waiting
for your dreams to come true.
