I am convinced that George Takei has the best sense of humor
on the planet. I guarantee that when he shares something on line, I laugh.
George Takei was born on this day in 1937 and, in my life; he will forever be
Sulu on Star Trek. Almost everyone on
the original Star Trek created iconic
characters that will endure for years to come. What can we do to honor Mr.
Takei at Walt Disney World? Oh, myyyyy…
he did do the voice of the First Ancestor in Mulan and Mulan II so
let’s go to the China pavilion at Epcot and find Mulan. Every time we have met
Mulan she has been awesome and I think you will find her to be awesome as well.
When I was about seven or eight years old there were certain
shows that we always watched. I say we because the entire family watched the
same thing because there was only one television and it received three
channels. We always watched Bonanza, Star
Trek, Batman, Flipper and Gentle Ben.
Gentle Ben featured Ron Howard’s
brother, Clint. Clint is always interesting and instantly recognizable and he
has done a lot of work. One of my favorite roles for Clint was his cool deejay
in That Thing You Do! “Del Paxton at
a high school dance, that’s wild.” Clint was the voice of Roo in Winnie the Pooh and the Blustery Day, Hathi,
Jr. in The Jungle Book and starred
with his brother Ron in The Wild Country.
Let’s go eat at The Crystal Palace in The Magic Kingdom where you can have
a meal with all the Pooh family of characters to honor Clint, born on this day
in 1959.
Cruella De Vil, Cruella De Vil, if she doesn’t scare you, no
evil thing will. Betty Lou Gerson, the voice of Cruella De Vil in 101 Dalmatians was born in Chattanooga,
Tennessee on this date in 1914. Cruella is always ranked as one of, if not the,
greatest Disney villain. Betty also played an old crone in Mary Poppins but it is Cruella that we love to hate. Fantasmic and
meet and greets to encounter Cruella are plentiful. Go and enjoy.
Quickies:
Today is Record Store Day. Record stores are fading fast. I
used to spend hours browsing stacks of records at Cut Corner Records in
Lexington, Singing Dog Records in Columbus, National Record Mart, and scores of
other stores. Don’t worry about WDW on this one, support your local record
store.
Today is Husband Appreciation Day. Just do it.
1929: Bob Braun was born in Ludlow, KY. Bob was a fixture on Mid-West television for
many, many years. He hosted a show based in Cincinnati, Ohio and syndicated
throughout the region. I watched him for years on WSAZ-TV out of Huntington,
WV. Later, I was shocked to find that he was in the Bruce Willis movie, Die Hard II: Die Harder. Go to Planet
Hollywood at Downtown Disney (soon to be Disney Springs). Does Bruce Willis
still own part of Planet Hollywood?
Remember, your best excuse is always: waiting for your
dreams to come true.
