On this date in 1925,
Roy O. Disney married Edna Francis at his Uncle Robert’s house in Los Angeles.
Walt had a motion picture camera and shot all the festivities. Five years
later, Roy and Edna had a son named Roy Edward. Both Roys offered leadership in
the Disney companies at crucial points. Roy O. opened The Magic Kingdom after
Walt’s death and his son Roy presided over the revival of animation at Disney
in the late 80’s and early 90’s. Go to The Magic Kingdom and take your picture
with Roy. Matt did and he’s glad he did.
Quickies:
1906: Einstein introduces his Theory of
Relativity: It helps to have a relative working at Walt Disney World. I’m a
science teacher; it’s a joke.
1943: The Earl of Sandwich was born: He liked to
play cards and eat so he stuck his meat between slices of bread to keep the
cards neat. Go to Downtown Disney, visit The Earl of Sandwich and have them put
your meat between slices of bread.
1945: Robert Fripp: guitarist for King Crimson
was born: I love Robert Fripp, I saw him in Charleston, WV with the League of
Crafty Guitar Players. While you’re at Downtown Disney, hit the House of Blues
and have them put your meat between slices of bread (don’t you just love a good
sammich?).
1959: Richie Sambora: Guitarist for Bon Jovi:
Stay at the House of Blues and have dessert (Hey, it’s a theme).
Remember, your best
excuse is always: waiting for your dreams to come true.
