On
this date in 1983, President Ronald Reagan visited EPCOT. The president toured
EPCOT with Dick Nunis, President of Walt Disney World and several hundred
school children. Reagan first visited the American Experience before speaking
at a podium located on the World Showcase Lagoon. Reagan speaks about the
promise of EPCOT Center and what it meant to his friend Walt Disney and the
world. Remember, Walt had Mr. Reagan act as one of the hosts for the opening of
Disneyland. If you need an excuse to visit the American Experience, here it is,
I don’t need an excuse but, hey, this is 365 Disney Excuses.
On
this date in 1976, the largest stony meteorite ever observed fell in Jilin,
China. I have a piece of an iron meteorite but this is a different animal
entirely. With the recent huge meteorite that exploded over Russia and the near
miss that actually flew between Earth and some of our geosynchronous
satellites, we should pay attention to our visitors from the far reaches of the
solar system. Since this one fell in China, let’s use that as an excuse to
visit China in the World Showcase. China is awesome and we love Mulan and
Mushu. Don’t miss it.
Today
is Middle Name Pride Day. Okay, in my house, my name is William Troy Hammond,
jr., my wife is Deana Jean Hammond, my daughter is Allison Danyelle Hammond and
my son is William Matthew Hammond. Middle names are awesome; Matt actually goes
by his. Walt’s full name is Walter Elias Disney. WED Enterprises used all three
initials and Elias is Walt’s tie to his father. We love a good middle name.
Remember, Walt Disney World’s middle name is DISNEY.
Remember,
your best excuse is always: waiting for your dreams to come true.
