Today is Johnny
Appleseed Day. John Chapman travelled about the United States preaching the
Gospel and planting apple tree nurseries. The image of Johnny Appleseed
travelling in tattered clothes with his cooking pot on his head and randomly
spreading apple seeds is more the work of legend. Johnny and his half-brother
lived a nomad lifestyle on the American frontier travelling and planting their
apple trees. John Chapman lived to see his legend grow and, like many of the
tall tales of the American frontier, did great things that became even greater
in the retelling. Another of the great legends of the American frontier was
Pecos Bill. So let’s go to Frontierland, get a meal at Pecos Bill’s Tall Tale
Café and honor all the great men who become even greater in legend.
In 1956, Rob Paulsen
was born in Detroit, Michigan. Paulsen has been is scores of animated movies,
television shows and video games. As bad as I feel at the moment (dang virus),
I cannot begin to give a comprehensive list of Paulsen’s role but here are a
few: Pinky from Pinky and the Brain,
Little Mermaid III, Fox and the Hound II, Kingdom Hearts II, Mickey’s Twice
Upon a Christmas, Mulan II, Mickey, Donald, Goofy: The Three Musketeers,
Teacher’s Pet, Stitch! The Movie, and Cinderella
II: Dreams Come True. This is only a swipe across the surface of Paulsen’s
career, trust me, there is so much more. In fact, just go any where in Walt
Disney World, there is something he was involved in everywhere.
1892 – The first
public basketball game is played in Springfield, Massachusetts.
1956 – This season is
the first where American League batters are required to wear batting helmets.
1986 – The National
Football League institutes instant replay.
Three big events in
American sports, one way to visit Walt Disney World and honor them all, the All
Star Sports Resort; A tribute to sports and those who play them. You can stay
in areas themed to all the major American sports and have easy access to
everything Disney.
Remember, your best
excuse is always: waiting for your dreams to come true.
