I’m in Morehead, Kentucky today. We are having a
COBRA science meeting that I totally forgot about until about 2:00 yesterday
afternoon. Oh well. The meetings are actually okay and they have given me some
cool stuff for my classroom and, as everyone knows, I am all about stuff. It’s
even better when it’s cool.
February 8,1828 Jules Verne was born in Nantes,
France. Jules Verne was a visionary, technology wise but a bit of an off
thinker socially. We’ll not hold that against him, he had some pretty cool science
fiction that is now fact. Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea, In
Search of the Castaways, Around the World in Eighty Days, and From
Earth to the Moon are among his best-known works. Disney's 1954 blockbuster
hit 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea was based on Verne's 1870
"Vingt mille lieues sous les mers." Disney released In Search
of the Castaways, first published in 1873, in 1962. The first
incarnation of Space Mountain in Disneyland Paris, named "Space
Mountain: De La Terre à la Lune," was based loosely on Verne's
novel From the Earth to the
Moon. In 2004, Walt Disney Pictures released a version of Around
the World in 80 Days starring Jackie Chan and Keith Coogan. So get to
the Magic Kingdom and get in line for the pooh ride, then look across the way
into new Fantasyland and remember that’s where the Twenty Thousand Leagues
Under the Sea ride used to be.
There used to be a submarine ride around here somewhere.
Da, Da… Da,
Da, Da, Daaaaaaaaa, da… Da, Da, Da, Daaaaaaaa, da… Da, Da, Da, Da. February 8, 1932 Composer, conductor
& pianist John Williams is born in Floral Park, New York. Star Wars and Indiana
Jones music can be heard in Disney's Hollywood Studios and
Disneyland Paris as well as being spoofed regularly on Family Guy. Williams has received 45 Academy Award nominations and
is the second most nominated individual after Walt Disney. Let’s all ride Star
Tours and be sure to enjoy the music.
These glasses make everyone look like John Williams.
In 1910, the Boy Scouts of America were
established in the United States; Baden-Powell had previously started the
scouts in Great Britain. I know Russell is not a Boy Scout but a Wilderness
Scout but to honor the scouts, let’s go to the Animal Kingdom and look around
until we find Russell and maybe Dug as well. Don’t worry... he loves you.
We love all scouts.
Remember, your best excuse is always: waiting for your dreams to come true.
