There are a few people whose birth changed the
entire world. Had they not been born, our lives today would be radically
different. George Washington, the first President of the United States, was
born in Virginia in 1732. Washington was a citizen first, always; he saw that
as his highest calling, citizen of the United States of America. When he could
have been King, he chose to limit his power and the duration of that power.
Washington set the tone and cast the mold that all future Presidents should
adhere to and it is a shame that some have failed his example, renounced their
role as the first citizen and nudged us ever closer to tyranny. May we honor
the original intent of the office and the man who determined what the timbre
should be? Visit the Hall of Presidents and recognize truth and honor.
Paul Dooley is one of those actors that you see
in television shows and movies your entire life but don’t actually know his
name but you know him when you see him. Dooley was born in Parkersburg, West
Virginia in 1928 and he appeared in his first television show in 1963. We honor
him here to day because in 2006 he starred as Sarge in Cars and a number of related sequels, shorts and video games. You
know there are a number of ways that we can honor Dooley but today let’s visit
the Art of Animation resort at Walt Disney World.
Today
is National Margarita Day. I am not a drinker but these are as much a frozen
dessert as they are a drink. Colorful, cold, tasty, what is not to love and, if
you don’t want the tequila, order it virgin? At EPCOT, in the Mexico pavilion,
there is a stand that sells frozen margaritas; do I need to say more?
Is
Goofy a dog? Pluto is a dog. Goofy’s as much like a person, as he is a dog.
Either way today is Walking the Dog Day and, in recognizing the day, let’s
consider Goofy a dog as well as my hero. You can eat with Goofy at Chef
Mickey’s, you can ride with Goofy on Goofy’s Barnstormer, and you can snack
with Goofy at Goofy’s Candy Company. In fact, if you go to Walt Disney World,
it’s hard to avoid Goofy and it’s hard to keep from being a little goofy.
A
moment of silence please, we have entered sacred territory. On this date in
1630, Indians introduced popcorn to the pilgrims. Popcorn borders on a
sacrament in our home. People pay for my popcorn, no joke, I pop the popcorn at
all the Lawrence County High School football games and I have tried to share
what I do to make great popcorn. I know that I have talked about this before
but when I retire, I would love to move to Orlando and run the Orville Redenbacher
Popcorn stand outside the Beauty and the Beast show in Hollywood Studios or the
stand between the train station and customer service at the Magic Kingdom. I
love popcorn, just keep quiet if you don’t.
Remember, your best excuse is always: waiting
for your dreams to come true.
Popcorn smell great! WHen are we getting to the excuse of having a spa day???????? I need one soon
