February 14, 2013: My heart is Soarin' to new heights.

Today is Valentine’s Day. Don’t say I didn’t warn you; in fact I spent about half the blog yesterday warning you. If you haven’t done anything or planned anything it is time to panic. If not, I hope your dog doesn’t smell too bad because you’re probably going to be sleeping in its house tonight.

Don't let this be where you lay your head tonight.

On this date in 1929, the original Hollywood Brown Derby opens at 1624 Vine Street in Hollywood, California. The restaurant was opened by Herb Somborn, Wilson Mizner and Sid Grauman (of the Chinese Theater fame). Bob Cobb was asked to manage the restaurant and, as legend has it, created the famous Cobb Salad to satisfy a late night craving by using whatever was left in the kitchen. The Hollywood Brown Derby inspired the restaurant in Disney’s Hollywood Studios and, if you don’t have other plans, you might try to get in there for Valentine’s Day. Good Luck, this is one of the harder reservations to get at WDW and uses up two table service credits on the dining plan. One of the cool things about the Brown Derby is that you can have lunch with an Imagineer there. So you can satisfy two cravings: the hunger for food and the thirst for knowledge.

There is no Ferris Wheel on Walt Disney World property. This surprises some people but Disney has so many different attractions that it didn’t hit me until I realized that they do have a Ferris Wheel at California Adventure in Anaheim. Today is National Ferris Wheel Day, so how can you celebrate this day at Walt Disney World when Walt Disney World has no Ferris Wheel? Let me suggest Soarin’ at EPCOT. Soarin’ ride vehicle has the same feel as a Ferris Wheel car but the ride is vastly different and much more fun. You can still sit by your sweetheart, hold her hand and reassure her with your manly presence. Remember, it is Valentine’s Day.

Remember, your best excuse is always: waiting for your dreams to come true.
