It was only yesterday
that I mentioned how much my wife loves Winnie-the-Pooh. Today is Alan
Alexander Milne’s birthday (1882). Just as my wife loves Winnie, Milne admitted
that his wife, Daphne, inspired him to write, his wife and his young son,
Christopher Robin. If you went to the Magic Kingdom yesterday then let’s try
the Animal Kingdom today. There is a Pooh meet and greet right before you enter
the dig area at Dinoland, U.S.A. and you can also look for one of my favorite
Disney t-shirts. The shirt has Pooh wearing a pith helmet and holding a
magnifying glass looking at a real tiger saying, “Tigger, is that you?” Buy
one.
We have a unique perspective at WDW.
This is also Cary
Grant’s birthday (1904). Grant, born in Bristol, England, was the
quintessential, dignified leading man. “Hey Goober, do Cary Grant.” “Judy,
Judy, Judy.” (Look that one up.) Grant also narrated Disneyland’s Candlelight
Ceremony several times but he only did Walt Disney World’s Candlelight
Processional once, in 1972. In 1972, EPCOT was not even open and the Processional
was held in front of the train depot at the end of Main Street, U.S.A. So pick
where you will visit today, the Magic Kingdom for tradition, EPCOT for the
current Candlelight celebration or Hollywood Studios to celebrate the movies
but all three would be a fitting tribute for Cary Grant.
We love Danny Kaye.
Kaye was a talented singer, actor and comedian and was born on this day in
1913. In 1982, Kaye was the host of the 1982 television special, EPCOT Center: The Opening Celebration. To
celebrate Mr. Kaye’s birthday, let’s all run through EPCOT singing the names of
Russian composers as loud and fast as we can, then duck into Club Cool and act
like it never happened. While in Club Cool resist the urge to do spit takes
while drinking some of the odder beverages, or not.
Remember, your best
excuse is always: waiting for your dreams to come true.
