Sorry that today’s blog will be a short one. I did a lab at
school today, had 21st Century Geocaching after school, dinner at
Toro Loco (Remember: National Guacamole Day), youth group at church then
transferred and edited the church radio program for airing on Saturday
afternoon at 2 PM on WFGH Radio in Fort Gay, WV. You can hear the program on
the Internet as well.
On this date in 1932, the Walt Disney Art School was
created. Walt was a believer in training and education and he set this up to
train artists on his way to producing feature length cartoons. Eventually this
would lead to Walt’s establishment of Cal Arts School. Walt left ¼ of his
estate to Cal Arts upon his death. Get
over to Disney’s Hollywood Studios and visit the animation areas, learn some
stuff, you could be the next John Lasseter.
It all started with a comic strip. In this case the comic
strip was Lil’ Abner, and what it started was Sadie Hawkins Day. Sadie was not
the best candidate for wifehood and her father, in a stroke of brilliance, set
up a race where the loser would end up marrying Sadie. This became a popular
culture phenomenon and morphed into Sadie Hawkins Day where the girls can ask
out the boys they like. Sadie Hawkins dances where it’s always ladies’ choice
are still held all across the USA. This also leads to one of my favorite
groups, Relient K, and their song “Sadie Hawkins Dance.” How does this tie in
to WDW? Matt Theissen, lead singer for Relient K has a song in the new Disney
movie, “Wreck it Ralph.” Haven’t seen it? Go now. In fact, go to the movies at
Downtown Disney. Yeah! Oh, and Ralph and Venelope and in the parks now as well.

Remember, your best excuse is always: waiting for your
dreams to come true.
