Remember, remember,
the 5th of November
The Gunpowder Treason
and plot;
I know of no reason
why Gunpowder Treason
Should ever be
forgot.
No, I’ve not been
hacked. Today is Guy Fawkes Day, a holiday in England for over 400 years, the
day memorializes the failed attempt by Guy Fawkes to blow up Parliament and
bring down King James I (yes, that King James). Traditionally, Guy is burned in
effigy on a bonfire accompanied by fireworks.
The image of Guy
Fawkes grew in popularity with Alan Moore’s V
for Vendetta and the eventual release of the movie adaptation. Don’t burn
anyone today, in reality or effigy but do attend some fireworks. Might I
suggest Wishes at the Magic Kingdom or Illuminations at EPCOT?
In 1911, Leonard
Slye was born in Cincinnati, Ohio. Leonard’s family lived in a tenement on 2nd
Street where Riverfront Stadium was built in 1970. Leonard joked that he was
born at 2nd base. The Slye family moved to Portsmouth, Ohio where
Leonard grew up and became familiar with horses and the skills associated with
cowboys. These skills would pay off for him later as a singer and actor, the
famous Roy Rogers. His voice can be heard in Disney's Pecos Bill segment
of the 1948 Melody Time. I strongly suggest you visit Frontierland and
enjoy a burger or taco salad and one of the best fixing bars in the world, Walt
Disney World that is.
Remember, your best
excuse is always: waiting for your dreams to come true.
