Hong Kong Phooey,
Number One Super Guy. Hong Kong Phooey, quicker than the human eye. And on top
of all that, he had a striped cat named spot. Hong Kong Phooey was born on this
day in 1910. Actually song and dance man and actor, Scatman Crothers was born
on this day in 1910. Scatman was on Chico
and The Man, The Harlem Globetrotters, The Transformers and one of my all
time favorites, The Shining. In 1970,
he was the voice of Scat Cat in The
Aristocats and you know everybody wants to be a cat. We have seen an
aristocat at the France Pavilion in EPCOT. I bet you can too.
Walt incorporates the
Laugh-O-Gram Company in Kansas City in 1922. Walt produced some good product
but made some bad business decisions and his first foray into the movie business
went belly up. In 1923, Walt set up his next movie business with his brother
Roy, who was a much better businessperson, this one took. I’m a member of D23
because that 1923 venture thrives today.
I’ve heard it called
the Moog, the Moog Simplifier, the Moog Synthesizer, the Mini-Moog. Whatever
the name, the Moog spawned a world of electronic music. On this day in 1934,
Robert Arthur “Bob” Moog was born in New York City. The Main Street Electrical
Parade has a Moog Model III and a Mini-Moog at its heart pumping out that sweet
synthesized sound of “Baroque Hoedown.” Stay for the parade at the end of the
day at The Magic Kingdom.
“Cleveland Rocks,
Cleveland Rocks, Cleveland Rocks, Cleveland Rocks.” On this date in 1958, Drew
Carey was born. Carey, now the host of The
Price is Right! and Whose Line Is It
Anyway? became famous with his self-named show. Drew also starred in the
Disney TV movie Gepetto and the
Hollywood Studios attraction Sounds
Dangerous. The attraction closed in May 2012 so we’ll just have to stroll
by the location at Hollywood Studios and move on.
Quickies:
1785: Benjamin
Franklin announces his invention of bifocals. Go to the American Adventure in
EPCOT’s World Showcase where Benjamin Franklin serves as host.
1966: Helena Bonham
Carter was born. She has been the Queen of Hearts and a host of other strange
characters. Visit the Villain’s store at Hollywood Studio.
Remember, your best
excuse is always: waiting for your dreams to come true.
