On this date in 1928, Walt Disney filed a trademark application for “Mickey
Mouse” with the United States Patent Office. After his experience with Oswald
the Lucky Rabbit, Walt was going to make sure that he had the rights to his
characters. Celebrate the day by visiting Mickey at the meet and greet at Town
Square in The Magic Kingdom.
1980: Empire Strikes Back premieres.
Did you know that Darth Vader never says, ”Luke, I am your father?” We get a
lot of movie quotes a little off. That’s okay, just go to Hollywood Studios and
watch some young padowans take on Vader at the Jedi Academy.
Our friend and one time padowan, Bailey Thompson
1898: Armand Hammer was born. My dad had stock in Hammer’s company,
Occidental Petroleum, later, when I was in college at the University of
Kentucky, Armand Hammer’s art collection toured through our Fine Arts Center.
Hey, there’s lots of art on display at Walt Disney World and most of it is for
sale. Go do a little art shopping.
Quickies:
Today is American Red Cross Founder’s Day. You
don’t have to wait to go to Walt Disney World, give blood.
On this date in 2011, Harold Camping predicted
the end of the world. We were holding our 8th grade dance that day
and at 6:30 I played “It’s The End Of The World As We Know It (and I feel
fine). Be happy and visit The Animal Kingdom where you can ride Dinosaur
(Countdown to Extinction). It’s the end of the world for something.
It’s also National Endangered Species Day. See
the last observation, it works here too.
Today is National Wait Staff Day. As Dear Abby
once said, “If you can’t afford the tip, you can’t afford the meal.” Tip your
wait staff well at the restaurants in Walt Disney World. Wait staff rely on
your tips for their salary.
Today is Sister Maria Hummel Day. Sister Maria
painted those bigheaded little children that were eventually cast into
figurines. Hitler hated them, which is reason enough to like them but don’t
they also remind of a certain ride at The Magic Kingdom? “It’s a small world,
after all. It’s a small world after all.”
Remember, your best excuse is always: waiting for
your dreams to come true.
