Today is Alvin C. York Day. The famous Sgt. York,
played in the movies by Gary Cooper, is celebrated on this day. Cooper won an
Oscar for his portrayal of the Tennessee hero of WW I. Definitely a day to
remember that one man can make a huge difference in the world. This would be a
good time to take part in the Flag Retreat at the Magic Kingdom. Anyone can
observe the solemn ceremony and veterans are encouraged to participate.
On this date in 2003, Mickey’s PhilharMagic has its
official grand opening in Fantasyland at The Magic Kingdom. It’s hard for me to
remember that this show was not there when we visited for the first time in
2001. This is one attraction that we visit again and again and again. It’s just
as good the 20th time as it was the first time. Go see for yourself.
On
the same day in 2003, the Magic Kingdom hosted a live performance of The Brian
Setzer Orchestra in front of Cinderella Castle. After the performance, Julie
Andrews introduces Disney’s newest nighttime extravaganza: Wishes: A Magical
Gathering of Disney Dreams. After ten years this remains my favorite fireworks
show of any Disney park. My wife bought me the soundtrack and I listen to it
regularly. There is just something about that small child that chimes in and
says,” … and all our wishes, will come true…” that just slays me. They may come
up with a better show at some point but I can’t imagine what it would be.
Remember, your best excuse is always: waiting for
your dreams to come true.
